What is Cycle Out Poverty?

Cycle Out Poverty (COP) is Habitat for Humanity Singapore’s first charity cycle which seeks to raise funds for their latest initiative, StarBuilders.

 

When is the event?

Date: 28 February 2015, Saturday

Time: 7.00am - 1.00pm (carnival will end at 2.00pm)

What Should I Bring?

All participants are required to wear proper covered shoes and bicycle helmets and bring your registration confirmation slip and a bottle of water for the trip.

 

As there will other public park connector users on the cycling route, we will enforce no helmet, no ride policy to protect you against less considerate cyclists who may be exceeding the speed limit on the park connectors.

 

When is the flag off?

Participants will be grouped into teams and sent off in waves starting from:

 

  • 7.30am for the 40KM Route

  • 8.00am for the 25KM Route

  • 8.30am for the 5KM Fun Ride

 

Please report to the flag off point 30 minutes before the flag off.

 

Please report to the starting point with your bicycles and gear 30 minutes before the flag-off time.

 

I want to be in the same team as my friend! How do I make sure of this?

All you have to do is to report at the event venue on event day with your group of friends in order to ensure that you are in the same team. A maximum of 15 participants will be grouped as a team.

 

What type of bicycle should I bring?

All types of bicycles are allowed. This includes road bikes, mountain bikes and foldable bicycles. For the safety of our participants and the public, we strongly discourage the use of Tri/TT bicycles with aero bars for this event.

 

Are there prizes to be won?

There will be prizes awarded to the Best Dressed and Top Fundraiser. Come in costume or click here to start your very own campaign page for your chance to win!

 

There will also be a Lucky Draw on the day itself for all COP participants. Stand to win a cruise holiday, staycations, gym memberships and much more!

 

Facilities

 

Is there parking available?

There is limited parking at Changi Civil Service Club. We would recommend parking at the open-air carpark next to Changi Village Hawker Centre or any of the other carparks around the area. URA parking charges apply.

 

Can I rent a bicycle and helmets at Changi CSC?

Limited number of rental bicycles (SGD 18) and helmets (SGD 3) are available when you register online. Amount listed covers the entire cycling duration for this event and is for the sole purposes of covering rental and administrative costs. This is based on a first come first serve basis. For the consideration of others who don't own bicycles, we would highly recommend as many cyclists as possible to bring their own.

 

Please be reminded that we have a strict No Helmet No Ride policy

 

Further details on where you will be required to return the rented bicycles and helmets will be given on the event day.

 

Is there a place where I can deposit my belongings before the cycling event?

No. All participants are required to carry their own belongings during the cycle.

 

Where do I go on the event day when I arrive?

Please report to the registration counter with your bicycles upon arrival on 28 Feburary.

 

Please assemble your bicycle before gathering at the flag-off point before your respective flag-off timings.

 

Please ensure that your bikes are collected before the end of the event. All racks will be cleared by 12.00pm.

 

Route

 

What does the 40KM Route entail?

We highly recommend the 40KM Route for avid cyclists as this route can be challenging and more difficult for leisure cyclists. You are required to abide by all NPark Rules including the need to dismount and push your bicycles across any designated bridges along the route.

 

What does the 25KM Route entail?

The 25KM Route is ideal for leisure cyclists.  You are required to abide by all NPark Rules including the need to dismount and push your bicycles across any designated bridges along the route.

 

What is the 5KM Fun Ride all about?

The 5KM Fun Ride is ideal for individuals who may find the other routes challenging or would just like to have fun with their friends and family. It is ideal for family bonding and includes an interactive treasure hunt. 

 

You are required to abide by all NPark Rules including the need to dismount and push your bicycles across any designated bridges along the route.

Where is the end point of the route?

All routes will start and end back at Changi Civil Service Club.

 

How will I know if I’m on the right track?

Participants will be assigned to groups with a team leader and sweeper who will guide you through the route. For your safety, you must not overtake the leader or fall behind the sweeper at all times.

 

Will there be route markers and road marshals along the route?
Yes, there will be road marshals to guide participants.

 

Can I skate or use any other wheeled mode of transport during the cycle?
No. Any other form of wheel-run objects of transport e.g. in-line skates, shoes with rollers, skateboards, tricycles, motorised bicycles/vehicles, scooters, etc are not allowed on the whole course. This is for the safety of all the participants; any participant doing so will be requested to exit the course immediately by the officials.

 

What if I'm thirsty?

There will be water points along the route, however you are highly encouraged to bring your own bottled water.

 

What will happen in the event of bad weather?

The event organisers reserve the right to postpone or cancel the event in the event of bad weather. As this is a fundraising events, registration fees will be non-refundable.

 

What if I am injured during the ride?

If you are injured, please alert your team leader or sweeper along the route for assistance. There will also be road marshals and/or paramedics on bicycles along the cycling route.

 

Are the routes designated for COP Participants only?

Please note that the cycling routes are open to public and you will be required to cross certain traffic junctions. Please be considerate to others, observe traffic and park rules, listen to your team leader and sweeper, and keep to the left-side of the cycling path at all times.

 

Registration

 

How can I register for Cycle Out Poverty 2015?
Registration can be done online here. When on the site, select Register Now and simply follow the registration steps. Credit Card (VISA or MasterCard) or Debit Card payments are accepted.

 

All participant donations will help defray the costs of running the event and the remainder will go to help Habitat for Humanity in fulfilling its mission.

I’m not sure of my T-Shirt Size. Is there a size chart?

I cannot make it for the event! Can I get a refund on my registration fees if I withdraw or transfer my registration?

No. Once registration is duly processed, no refunds or transfers will be given should the participant decide to not take part for whatever reason.

 

How will I know if my entry is successful?
You will receive a confirmation email upon successful registration. If you do not receive a confirmation email, please follow the instructions on the registration page.

 

What should I do with my confirmation slip?
Please bring a soft copy or printout of your confirmation slip on the event day for verification purposes.

Post-Cycling Carnival

 

What will happen once we return from the cycle?

There will be a carnival happening at the event area after the cycle. There will be stalls selling food and drinks as well as fun activities happening on stage!

 

What payment methods will be available at the event?

All items on sale at the event will be via cash purchase only. Please bring cash as there are no ATMs in the vicinity of the event site.

 

Where can I get my Goodie Bag and T-Shirt?

There will be a collection booth at the event area where you can pick up your goodie bag and t-shirt at the end of the cycle.
