Where will we be going?

COP 2018 will take cyclists along the scenic route of the 6 Barelang Bridges connecting several islands of Batam. The starting point will be at the 1st Bridge on Batam's main island and cyclists will travel along the main road that connects all 6 bridges. The final point will be on Gelang Island, after crossing the 6th bridge.

What will the route along the Barelang Bridges be like?

Cyclists will be cycling on smooth, paved roads. The route will follow one straight main road, connecting all 6 bridges. Cyclists will be travelling through Batam's rolling hills with steep inclines and slopes at certain sections of the route. Expect breath-taking views at bridge crossings, with scenic views of the turquoise blue ocean and chains of islands hugging Batam's coast.

What does the 55KM Route entail?

We highly recommend the 55KM Route for avid cyclists that have experience in riding 55 km within 3-4 hours. This is a road cycling route that starts from the 1st Bridge, all the way until the end point on Gelang Island.

What does the 110KM Route entail?

We highly recommend the 80KM Route for avid cyclists that have experience in riding 110 km within 4-6 hours. This is a road cycling route that starts from the 1st Bridge to the mid-way 55km point on Gelang Island, and then a u-turn to follow same route back to the 1st Bridge.

How will I know if I’m on the right track?

Participants will be assigned to groups with a team leader and sweeper who will guide you through the route. For your safety, you must not overtake the leader or fall behind the sweeper at all times.

Will there be route markers and road marshals along the route?

Yes, there will be road marshals to guide participants.

Can I skate or use any other wheeled mode of transport during the cycle?

No. Any other form of wheel-run objects of transport e.g. in-line skates, shoes with rollers, skateboards, tricycles, motorised bicycles/vehicles, scooters, etc are not allowed on the whole course. This is for the safety of all the participants; any participant doing so will be requested to exit the course immediately by the officials.

What if I'm thirsty?

There will be water points along the route, however you are highly encouraged to bring your own bottled water.

What will happen in the event of bad weather?

Organisers reserve the right to delay the event during bad weather. If bad weather persists, the organisers reserve the right to cancel the event. Registration fees are non-refundable.

What if I am injured during the ride?

If you are injured, please alert your team leader or sweeper along the route for assistance. There will also be road marshalls along the cycling route and an ambulance on stand-by.
