 3RD EDITION

Cycle Out Poverty

 13-15 April 2018 // Friday to Sunday

 Barelang Bridges, Batam

 35km // 110km

Registeration is now closed!

Event Description

Cycle Out Poverty is back for its 3rd edition & better than ever!  We're looking for avid cyclists who are passionate about using their cycling prowess for a good cause.

COP 2018 is Habitat Singapore’s third non-competitive, fundraising cycling event. Funds raised by cyclists will go towards supporting our work to provide decent homes for unprivileged families & elderly in Singapore and across Asia-Pacific.

In 2017, Habitat Singapore provided decent homes to 570 vulnerable families & elderly in Singapore and abroad. Your fundraising efforts will help boost our efforts to reach our goal of 700 families & elderly in 2018.

Join us as we take COP overseas for the very first time, to the scenic Barelang Bridges in Batam. Enjoy a different side of Batam as you ride the scenic Barelang Bridges - a chain of 6 bridges connecting the islands of Batam, Rempang, and Galang, Riau Islands.

This special edition of COP will also, for the very first time, include a trip to Kabil Village in Batam where Habitat has been working to transform living conditions for the entire community.

Cyclists will get to visit a Habitat house up close & meet the families Habitat has helped! Witness first hand the life-changing experience a decent house can bring and take part in a special activity we have planned for cyclists to help rejuvenate the village.

 UPDATE!

A government agency in Batam has come in as a key sponsor for Cycle Out Poverty 2018.

About HFHSG

 ABOUT HABITAT SINGAPORE

Founded in 1976, Habitat for Humanity is an international non-profit Christian housing organisation that believes decent, affordable shelter is a basic human right and helps break the cycle of poverty.

Habitat’s mission is to eliminate poverty housing worldwide by building simple, decent houses with the help of homeowner families themselves and volunteers.

Habitat for Humanity Singapore has been mobilising hundreds of volunteer teams for building projects and disaster response to countries such as China, India, Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, the Philippines and Thailand.

Locally, Habitat Singapore also runs Project HomeWorks, a intensive home-cleaning programme to give our elderly poor and those living along with disabilities a safe and sanitary home.

As a non-profit, non-government, volunteer organisation, Habitat Singapore relies heavily on our supporters & fundraising events like Cycle Out Poverty (COP) to sustain the work we do both in Singapore and overseas.

The last 2 editions of COP in 2015 & 2016 saw 600 cycling enthusiasts raise a total of $120,000.

Join us for COP 2018 as we take the challenge overseas & put your cycling prowress to the test for a good cause!

ABOUT KABIL VILLAGE

I'm a paragraph. Click here to add your own text and edit me. It's easy.

 About Batam Build

Batam Build is a designed as a short-term alternative to our overseas house-building Global Village Trips. Builds can be as short as 1 day where participants leave in the morning for Batam, and return to Singapore by the evening; to a maximum of 2 days.

Habitat Singapore has been working closely with Habitat for Humanity Indonesia to bring positive impact to thousands of disadvantaged people in Batam. In 2014, the total number of houses built in Batam stood at 1,600.

 About Kabil Village

Kabil is located in the sub-district of Nongsa, Batam and consists of 20,451 residents. Of these families, 40% of them are living in substandard houses. These homes are susceptible to structural collapse during the monsoon season and lack proper access to potable water, electricity and toilets.

As part of the strategic building plan, Habitat for Humanity Batam aims to improve the standard of living for 1,000 families through the reconstruction of new homes, improving the current water, drainage and electricity system by the end of 2018.

If you've been a long-time supporter of Habitat or even just heard about work but never stepped into a Habitat house, this is your chance! Cycle with us to raise awareness about housing poverty & the need for decent homes in Batam and around the world, including Singapore.
